South Australian Press Club Awards 2016: winners

TEN News reporter Phoebe Bowden wins the Scoop of the Year & Young Journalist of the Year award in Adelaide.

The South Australian Press Club Awards last night saw TEN News reporter Phoebe Bowden awarded the Scoop of the Year and Young Journalist of the Year awards.

ABC News, Seven and Nine News were all category recipients:

Best Television News Report
Gertie Taylor, Seven Network “Salt Creek”

Nine News Team, Nine Network “SA Storm Blackout – Breaking News”

Best Broadcaster, Television, Radio or Online
Alice Monfries, Nine Network “Flood Emergency, Riley’s Brave Battle and Charity Crash”

Best Camera News Footage
Matt Bonser and Ray Ward, Network Ten “Pinery – the first hours”

Best Regional or Rural Report Any Medium
Angelique Donnellan, ABC “Whyalla’s uncertain future”

Best Transport Journalism in Any Medium
Mike Smithson, Seven Network, “Idiotic Overtaking”

Scoop Of The Year In Any Medium
Phoebe Bowden, Network Ten “Medical Breach”

Young Journalist of the Year
Phoebe Bowden, Network Ten

Student Journalism Award
Samantha Dawes, ABC

Lifetime Achievement Award
Awarded to: Don Riddell

Network Ten News Manager, Adelaide, Fiona Clark, said: “Phoebe Bowden is a journalist of rare talent. She has carefully cultivated contacts across all rounds and is widely respected for her integrity.

“As such, she is confident covering stories right across the news spectrum. Any journalist who strives to set the news agenda, and not just follow it, should be applauded.

“The fact that Phoebe does so with humility and with a never-ending willingness to learn and improve makes her a stand-out within the Adelaide media, regardless of her age.”

Network Ten Executive Director, News, John Choueifate, said: “I’m exceptionally proud of Phoebe and her achievements. What an outstanding result for the entire TEN Eyewitness News First At Five team.”

Nine News Adelaide Director, Tony Agars, commended Alice Monfries for her dedication and hard work and said: “Alice has had a great year with Nine and her work is testament to that. She’s an important part of a dynamic and very experienced news team.”
