How long after one binge before you commit to another series?

Netflix trends reveal viewers end a binge with like-minded movies before taking their next plunge.

Netflix has issued its findings into the habits of subscribers who finish binging one series to see how long it takes them to commit to another.

It analysed the viewing data of over 86 million members across more than 190 countries between January 2016 and October 2016 and found 59% of members take a pause, usually lasting three days, before committing to a new show.

During that break, more than half (61%) watch a movie.

“It’s interesting that in this golden age of television, movies are consistently in demand on Netflix,” said Ted Sarandos, Chief Content Officer, Netflix. “What we’ve come to figure out is that movies are really an important part of people’s viewing routines and complimentary to the way they watch and enjoy TV.”

In Australia, after watching House of Cards some members moved to Beasts of No Nation, while Gilmore Girls revisited classics like Dirty Dancing and Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Marvel’s Daredevil viewers turned to V for Vendetta while Making A Murderer viewers switched onto Aileen: Life and Death of a Serial Killer.

But horror fans bucked the trend, turning to comedy before their next series. For instance, watchers of Scream turned to Magic Mike XXL while viewers of American Horror Story relaxed with The Do-Over.

  1. I don’t usually binge hard but did so just recently for Gilmore Girls completing all 7 seasons in a very short time I miss stars hollow already and am in no way ready to jump into another relationship ;p

  2. I don’t subscribe to NetFlix, But I find when I watch a series, either on DVD or catch-up on my Hard drive. I prefer a longer break than 3 days. But I suppose I am outside the norm. I would rather savour a show for a few weeks than watch it all at once!
