Jimmy Kimmel is hosing the 2017 Academy Awards, his first as host.
The late night US host confirmed the news on social media.
Yes, I am hosting the Oscars. This is not a prank. And if it is, my revenge on @TheAcademy will be terrible & sweet. Thx to @alsformalwear

Kimmel was recently praised for hosting the 2016 Emmy Awards, and is a previous host of the American Music Awards. The show will be produced by Michael De Luca and Jennifer Todd.
A long-term $75 million deal between ABC network and the Academy gives the latter final say on producers, hosts and other production decisions. But Variety notes the network has long wanted more say in how the show is produced.
The 89th Academy Awards will take place on February 27 (Australian time) and are expected to air Live on Nine.
