Airdate: BAFTA Awards 2017

UKTV will hold back its screening of the BAFTAs by a day for Australians, when the news is all over.

The EE British Academy Film Awards 2017 will screen in mid-February.

Held at the Royal Albert Hall, Stephen Fry is returning to host the ceremony as BAFTA celebrates its 70th anniversary.

UKTV is claiming this as “express” but airing on Tuesday February 14, a day after being held in London (Feb 13 Australian time), is not particularly express when we are talking awards shows.

Last year’s event managed to be held on the Monday night. In 2015 there was even a 7:30am screening, within minutes of the UK live event.

The awards are renowned for welcoming and honouring an impressive line-up of stars and are regarded as an important indicator of the frontrunners for the Academy Awards.

This year’s nominations reflect a stellar year in film, with La La Land leading with eleven BAFTA nominations; Arrival and Nocturnal Animals taking nine nominations apiece, and Manchester by the Sea receiving six.

Australian film Lion, which follows the true story of a young boy adopted by an Australian couple on his search for his birth parents 25 years later, is nominated in five categories, including Best Supporting Actress for Nicole Kidman. This will be her fourth BAFTA-nomination, and she previously won the Leading Actress award for The Hours.

8.30pm Tuesday, 14th February on UKTV.

  1. Once again Foxtel shows how out of touch they are and arrogant really. If this didn’t have Australian nominees then fine – but this is exciting – and if we win is going to be all over the news – so what is the use in holding it back.. If you want to do a prime time showing fine – but show it live.
    Shame on you Foxtel
