Farewell to Presto…

Just shy of its third birthday, the streaming service launched jointly by Foxtel / Seven takes its final bow.

It’s the last day for Presto.

The Foxtel – Seven venture launched in March 2014 -ahead of Stan and Netflix- but announced its closure in October. Seven also exited the service at the time of the announcement.

The service offered separate subscriptions for Film and TV, and a bundle for both, with most titles having screened previously on Foxtel.

Its exclusive titles were selective with Mr. Robot -the most profile- joining Aquarius, Bitten, The Firm, Matador and Rogue.

Australian commissions were slim with the shorts Let’s Talk About and three Home and Away summer specials produced by Seven. From all reports it was the latter that drove the biggest uptake.

Customer help was also driven by a web forum rather than an operator service.

The failure of the platform has hit the books hard, with Foxtel noticeably cutting staff not long after announcing the end of the line.

All Presto users with a subscription will automatically be able to use Foxtel’s new streaming service, Foxtel Play.

  1. Channel 7 keeps dipping it’s toe in pay TV waters, I still remember C7 Sport on original Optus before it adopted Foxtel minus some add ons. Foxtel thought they could suck in a few extra subscribers with some used product still on their books, but once again is not learning any lessons about streaming and especially standardising HD and 4K content. Perhaps they should review whats happening with their sister company in Britain including their competition.
