Ahead of new episodes next week, Seven commissions Erik Thomson drama for a third season.

More good news for drama fans with Seven renewing 800 Words for a third season.

The news comes ahead of the second half of Season 2 beginning on air next week.

Brad Lyons, Channel 7’s Director of Production said: “We feel the Turner family’s story is only just beginning. There is so much more in store and we can’t wait to share it with Australia who have embraced this series with such a charming cast and brilliant production team.”

Production on Season 3 will commence next month in New Zealand.

Starring Erik Thomson as a widower who relocates to the fictional town of Weld, New Zealand, along with his kids (Melina Vidler and Benson Jack Anthony), the series follows the affable Turner family as they embark on their own romantic relationships and set about finding their futures.

First premiering in 2015, the series quickly cemented its popularity amongst Australians with the first installment of Season 2 averaging over 1.5 million viewers across both metro and regional audiences.

A further testament to the show’s success, 2016 also saw Erik Thomson take home the Silver Logie for Most Popular Male, while Melina Vidler won the Silver Logie for Most Outstanding Newcomer – Actress in her first major television role.

800 Words is a co-production between Seven and South Pacific Pictures. The series was co-created by James Griffin and Maxine Fleming and produced by Chris Bailey. Executive Producers are Seven’s Head of Drama, Julie McGauran and John Holmes.

New episodes screen from 9.00pm Tuesday 31 January.

  1. Awesome news. But I hope they don’t treat it like winners and losers where they would just finish half way through a season and bring it back 6 mths later.

  2. How long is season 2 David? I hope the second half isn’t just four or five episodes. Makes no sense if it is, but I doubt they have commissioned 22 episodes like in the old days??

  3. Great news Thanks David. I wish we knew how many episodes were commissioned for S2 and for S 3, so fans know what to look forward to. The sensitive competitive nature is quite irritating!
