AWGIE Awards 2017: call for entries

There are changes to TV categories at this year's Australian Writers’ Guild awards.

The Australian Writers’ Guild recently announced it was open for entries for its annual AWGIE Awards, marking the event’s 50th anniversary.

This year there are some changes to the categories, including the following:

Television Drama Categories

New Combined Category:
Television – Series or Miniseries of more than 4 hours duration.
Key features:
Includes Television Series or Miniseries of more than 4 hours duration.
Includes both original and adapted works in the one category.
Only single episodes may be entered.

New Combined Category:
Television – Telemovie or Miniseries of 4 hours duration or less.
Key features:
Includes Telemovies and Miniseries of 4 hours duration or less.
Includes both original and adapted works in the one category.
Miniseries can be submitted in their entirety for judging as a single piece of work, or as individual episodes.

Children’s Television – P Classification
Includes any script – original or adapted – written for a children’s television program suitable for pre-school children under the age of 5 years.
The script can involve either animation or live action, or a combination of both.
All television works written for pre-school children must be entered in this category.
Key change:
Animated P Classification scripts cannot be entered in the Animation category and can only be entered in the Children’s Television – P Classification category.

Animation
Open to all forms of scripted Animation work, with a maximum duration of 30 minutes.
Does not include animated Children’s Television – P Classification works.
Key change:
Children’s Television – P Classification scripts are no longer eligible for this category, as they are considered more appropriately grouped in their own Children’s Television – P Classification category.

The Awards will be held on Friday 25 August 2017 at Darling Harbour, Sydney.
