Gone: Scorpion, Hawaii Five-0, Macgyver

TEN waves the white flag on Saturday action dramas.

TEN has pulled its US action dramas Scorpion, Hawaii Five-0 and Macgyver from its Saturday night schedule following disappointing ratings.

Last week they drew the following figures:

Scorpion 186,000
Hawaii Five-0 180,000
Macgyver 184,000

They are now out schedule (aside from Hawaii Five-0 replays on Wednesday nights).

TEN had attempted to rejuvenate its Saturdays with first-run US dramas but it hasn’t worked, at least not in the short term. It takes much longer as it has learned with Friday programming.

Tonight it will play movie repeats Ice Age and Night at the Museum. Stand by for Devil Wears Prada?

  1. I went to watch it last night and was disappointed it wasn’t on.

Saturday night is a dead night for tv. You can’t expect big numbers on a saturday night.

Looks like 24 is out of the schedule too. Another show is in its timeslot next week

      1. Homeland is pretty good value too, but my theory is that most viewers who prefer U.S. shows want to to watch them without delay or continual advertising impost and the only place you find the opportunity to do that is streaming. The days of FTA are numbered.

  2. Ten have pretty much decided it’s fate on Reality TV as their ratings saviour, the same applies for other struggling FTA channels as well, as they also look for increased advertising revenue and excuses for sponsorship product placement. Those who want American shows will have to hope that Stan or Netflix will screen them at some point as the FTA channels really don’t care at all about program continuity.

  3. Well, TEN’s replacement movies on Saturday night didn’t get a mention in the Top 20. Seem to be <180,000 their predecessors scored. Then, no surprise seeing what they scheduled. TEN had nothing in the Top 20. Bad. Tried new series – didn't work. Tried old movies – didn't work. If it's going to be movies -v- movies -v- movies at least find something new, not multi-reruns and things people no doubt have in their DVD collection.

  4. RIP Intl Drama on 10. 10 really need to fix up its schedule for Sat following post-BBL. Already, 10 has been thrashed by ABC & occasionally SBS on Sat Nights.

  5. I gave up on Scorpion last season – it became too sanitary and dull – and I’m completely over the updated shows like H5-0, MacGuyver and Lethal Weapon so not sorry to see these ditched.

  6. That’s a shame and right on the cusp of the Hawaii Five-0 and Macgyver crossover (March 10th US Time), which actually puts Hawaii Five-0, MacGyver, Scorpion and the NCIS’s all in the same universe. With Hanna, Blye and Callen appearing in Hawaii Five-0 (and vice versa for Danny and Co), plus Hetty also appearing in Scorpion, ah well guess it will be watch via CBS on VPN for me then.

  7. Replacing 1st run shows with old movie repeats must be a stop-gap measure. Saturday nights are a problem for all channels with the bulk of viewers being either the Grumpies or kids. The Footy may save 7 & 9 so 10 needs some sport from Foxtel. Would partying viewers watch a revamped “TEN On The Town” called “Rave”?

  8. Yep, you have to at least acknowledge the effort channel 10 made with these dramas on Saturday night… they stuck with them a hell of a lot longer than the other two would have… it’s just a shame it didn’t work… which will ultimately result in even less risk taking in the future ?

  9. Yeah I went to record them & saw they weren’t on. Do they think they will rate better on a week night? I didn’t think ratings mattered that much on the weekend.

  10. That’s a shame for Ten but good on them for giving it a go. Much like 7flix tried first run Shonda Rhimes dramas on Mondays, and got more than double the viewers for Big Bang reruns. The networks can only try – they did, and sadly, viewers prefer movie and comedy reruns

  11. Friday and Saturday nights aren’t goodnights for new shows so i don’t know why they put them on then. Many people go out or are with families, so movies are the best way to go. Preferably ones that haven’t been repeated a million times, and I’m trying not to exagerate. Kids movies that start at 6.30pm should do all right. Perhaps some older movies from earlier years (50’s – 80’s) & would be of more interest.

  12. Not really surprised Ten pulling the plug on these shows, with the constant very low ratings.

But I’ve got to say kudos to Ten for trying something different on a Saturday night as long as they did. Other networks (7 and 9) would have axed them within two weeks. At least tried for a few months to have a consistent schedule, and potentially gain viewers slowly, but sadly, this failed.

  13. I actually think Saturday night is ripe for the taking for Ten if they’re willing to try something a bit different. The other networks have given up on Saturday night and since they’ve taken their focus off Wed and Thurs nights, Ten has managed to be extremely competitive on those nights. Dare I say it but I think some kind of live panel/variety show could work. I’m not saying bring back Hey Hey cause I know how expensive that is to do but what about something like a more relaxed/entertainment based Sat night Project or Studio 10 show? You’d be utilising brand names and faces already familiar with people, sets are already in place and there is a built in audience who may be willing to watch. Could be worth a try and anything has to be better than the single digit shares they’re currently getting on a Saturday night.

    1. Something like what TEN did in 2009 with Shaun Micallef’s New Year’s Rave would fit in perfectly, could in fact make it part interview, part Talkin’ About, part Newstopia/Mad As Hell, part skit, call it Saturday Night Rave.

    1. Yep…gave up trying along time ago…getting so I rarely turn on my TV…watch Iview …live stream TEN news…right now Rage…
Miss the days when you could turn on your TV and know what was on…every day…every week…to much like hard work now…keeping up.

      1. So true, so you set the IQ to do the extended recording which means 20 minutes extra but the show actually starts 35 minutes late and you miss the last 15 minutes. So I gave up and just deleted what I have not seen and any future recordings…

  14. Still think Ten could do a Crime multichannel using these sort of programs. They have the stock and l am sure it would get traction if they had a good programming schedule.

    1. I don’t understand why you insist on maintaining this obsession with Ten starting a crime channel. The evidence is that those shows have not been rating well – why would you go to the expense of building a new channel around them?

Ten need to fix up Eleven and One, which are full of repeats in primetime, before wasting bandwidth and cash on a pipe dream.

      1. Then why is TVHits one of the higher rating shows on Foxtel? Why do Nine have Life or Seven with 7Flix? The reason they don’t rate is because they are aired late in the evening, or moved around the schedule or shown 6 months after their original airing in the states. Agree Ten need to work on One & 11 but no different to other network offerings.
