Tom Arnold voted out of TEN’s jungle

When your biggest star is sent packing by the audience first, it begs the question: was he a casting fail?

US sitcom star Tom Arnold was the first celebrity voted out of I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here last night.

Viewers were not turned on by his lazy approach to camp life and argumentative manner.

But before he left he did reveal Hillary Clinton had asked him to release telltale videos of Donald Trump’s racist remarks, 2 days before the US election.

“She called me two days before the election and said ‘Please release that'” he recalled.

“The weight of the free world is on your shoulders.”

But he has not released the vision until a producer and editor give him the ok.

“Boy it was the time of my life in there,” he said of the TEN show.

“It looked like I was the bad guy but trust me the camp has 11 more bad guys right now so keep watching.

“The best part of the jungle was jumping off the waterfall, or the skydiving. Anything active like that was awesome. The best moments.

“Everything else sucked. Sucked!  Sucked!”

Arnold’s casting failed to match the surprise casting of Maureen McCormick and Shane Warne in previous seasons. For the most famous and well-paid participant this year to be sent packing by the audience first, is a casting fail.

Tonight Osher Günsberg will surprise the celebrities as former Bachelor contestant Keira joins the camp.

  1. I was sorry to see Tom go first. He was finally starting to open up a bit. I was hoping to hear some gossip of some of the Hollywood stars he’s starred with. He dropped some names the other night, but that was it.

  2. It’s a shame because to me he finally seemed to be getting into it. It took Maureen a while to get settled and what a trouper she turned out to be. Anyway I’m sure he was pleased to leave but I would rather have seen Dane leave. He adds nothing. Zip…For all of Toms laziness and name dropping he at least had a presence and opinions.

  3. In truth the only reason I watched segments of this show is because I am outvoted by female family members, the obvious humiliation and gross bits delights them. To my mind it is highly exploitative adversarial abuse disguised as entertainment as are most reality TV shows

  4. Tom Arnold has given two weeks of solid press soundbites… last night his Hilary Clinton bit went worldwide..
To say he was a casting fail shows a gross lack of understanding…
I’m sure 10 are happy they have a loud mouthpiece today to talk up the show. I mean that most of this article being about his soundbite says something… honestly for the TV stations, there’s just no pleasing some people

    1. When you are paying big bucks it’s a much better casting coup to have them resonate with the audience and stay much longer. As Warne did, as Maureen McCormick did. Much of the audience accused him of being lazy, boring and voted accordingly. A bit of chatter internationally has currency but OzTAM ratings are worth more. Still a fail in my book.

  5. Was so glad Tom was the first to go, every time I saw him he looked like he didn’t want to be there. And if they were paying him more than the others, I agree epic fail. Dane Swan is surprisingly boring, I thought he’d have more personality. I don’t agree that Kris is boring, but I might be biased there.

  6. I was going to watch it when Osher and his celebrity guest came in to see who it was, but then I read it was Kiera from the Bachelor. So no, I’m sorry she isn’t a celebrity. She is like Ash, just going from one reality tv show to another to still get fame.

  7. I enjoyed watching Tom and now he’s gone so will I. Too many reality people in the show and no real celebrities as I see it. I know they probably can’t afford genuine celebrities, but surely they can get some Australians that are well known for doing something and not just because they were on a reality show. Alternatively just do a Survivor type casting and get complete nobody’s, at least that way you can get a good diverse group or people which would be more interesting to get to know and watch than what we are now left with.

  8. Disappointing . At least Tom has been entertaining once he “settled in” – yes, he was arrogant, rude and lazy but some of the comments he came out with were hilarious.
With a couple of exceptions, most of the rest are pretty bland and boring. Jai, Dane, Kris, Tegan and Lisa don’t add much at all.
Tziporah is quite bizarre – she really isn’t coping socially and appears always on the edge of cracking. But she’s interesting to watch. She def isn’t a people person but has no problem with the challenges.
Unfortunately, she’ll probably be the next to go.
Steve, Nazeem and Ash are good value.
Casey’s OK – seems to have tapped in with viewers …I think she’ll win.

  9. I couldn’t help thinking, that it might have been that Tom was only contracted to be in the jungle for a copy of weeks effectively as a reality version of click bait.

    1. Interesting thoughts which reminds me of David Hasselhoff’s stunt casting on The Celebrity Apprentice Australia a couple of years ago. What do you think David?

    2. yeah I’ve had my suspicions about that too, either that or he acted up to being a grumpy boring shit hoping he would get voted off, he didn’t look surpised to be going & was obviously pretty happy about it. He has hinted he didn’t know the show was for real, like he thought maybe they cheated & secretly fed the celebs off camera or something, so maybe he told the producers either you vote me out or I quit. Surely he would’ve checked it out properly before agreeing to be in it. Anyway good riddance, boring lazy & unentertaining.

  10. Sitcom star? The only sitcoms he’s ever starred in appear to have been axed during or after their first season. And he only served as a recurring guest on Roseanne back in the day, and unlike massively popular US sitcoms like Friends, Seinfeld, M*A*S*H*, Cheers, Frasier, and to a lesser extent, Everybody Loves Raymond, Roseanne has not aged well, nor has it had the enduring popularity of the previously mentioned sitcoms.

While I was familiar with his name (The Simpsons guest appearance?), I couldn’t name a single thing that I had ever known him to star in. I’m baffled that the producers would think that Australian audiences would be familiar with a washed up actor who has only ever made guest appearances on whatever show is willing to have him. I’d put Tom Arnold in the same league as Ed Begley Jr. and Steve Guttenberg (i.e. relatively prolific actors with no particular claim to…

  11. I’m guessing viewers voted Tom off for being boring to watch and adding nothing to the show. For that reason I reckon Jay, Dane and Kris will be up to get out of there this week with Jay probably being voted the most boring and out of there.

  12. Hmm, his exit looked a little too contrived. I think he was quite successful for 10 with all his celebrity name dropping and Trump “scandals?”. I liked him for the short time he was there. So who is going to be the big draw card now? The rest are fairly beige. Not sure of the success of bringing in the bachelor stuff. Think I might bail on this show now.

  13. I have to disagree David. Tom for me has been my favourite celebrity out of all three seasons so far and I’m bloody disappointed he’s gone because I thought he was hilarious albeit after a lacklustre first few days. I hope Steve Price doesn’t follow him as I will stop watching because it will be as boring as bat shit without those two.

  14. Bugger, I thought Tom was brilliant, I’d rather watch him than Ash, Kris, Dane, Tegan and Jai because they are soooo freakin boring, and now they are adding a cross promo wanna be….. Sheesh. Thankfully Steve, Lisa, Casey, Nazeem and Tzip are holding my attention.

  15. I don’t watch this show, but my wife does. So I do see a few minutes occasional as as we spend “quality time” together.

It was obvious to me that he didn’t want to be there and I suspect that he knew his behaviour would get him kicked out quickly. So thanks for the money and gotta go now. Do we know how much he was paid?

        1. agreed, she’s been surprisingly entertaining, I’m guessing she only agreed to be on if the producers picked out more favourable bits for the show because it would be a bit tough being out in public after being the MKR villain. She’s a bit of a hottie too hah
