Distinguished Australian actor, who has a range of stage and screen credits across a long career, has died.

Distinguished Australian actor, Fred Parslow, who has a range of stage and screen credits across a long career, has died, aged 84.

He died on Australia Day.

Parslow’s association with the Melbourne Theatre Company dates back to the early days when the Company was founded as the Union Theatre Repertory Company. He first performed with the Company in 1955 in a touring production of the Twelfth Night before going on to enjoying a long and illustrious career with MTC that spanned nearly three decades.

MTC Executive Director Virginia Lovett said, “Fred Parslow will always be a luminous part of MTC history and someone who we and our long-time subscribers will remember fondly. We extend our deepest sympathies to his family at this sad time.”

His TV credits included The Sullivans, Skyways, Neighbours, Against the Wind, Burn the Butterflies, Bluey, The Paper Man, and Search for Treasure Island.

Film credits include The Last Wave, Outback, The Sex Therapist and The Humpty Dumpty Man.

  1. He also featured largely in Noel Ferrier’s Friday night “In Melbourne Tonight”, along with Mary Hardy and many other “alternative” actors. They were actors rather than comedians. They were great shows, quite different from Graham Kennedy’s version.

  2. Very pleased that you have covered this David. His passing received very little coverage and he was a giant on the stage… I was very lucky to have seen him there. He would be widely known to many as Mr Jarvis, one of the original cast members from The Sullivan’s.
