Casey Donovan wins I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here

Australian Idol champ wins her second reality series, in a finale that let slip on its news too early.

Casey Donovan has won I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here 2017.

The former Australian Idol champion won her second Reality TV title, ahead of AFL footballer Dane Swan in second place, and actress / presenter Natalie Bassingthwaighte in third.

Donovan becomes the first female to be named Queen of the Jungle, a title she has claimed despite bailing on more challenges than her co-stars. Yet viewers connected with her personality to vote her the series champion.

She wins $100,000 for her chosen charity, Starlight Children’s Foundation, and is understood to take home pay bonus for winning the series.

“I’m surprised that I’m here. I’m grateful and proud of myself, and everything everyone has achieved. I’m beside myself,” Donovan said.

“It’s been fun, amazing…. something you would probably only ever do once. But I gave it a go, I thinl we all did that and we can be super proud of ourselves.”

But the TEN finale was not without controversy with the three remaining contestants having to be rescued from a final challenge, getting stuck in non-Newtonian fluid.

Meanwhile fourth-placed Nazeem Hussain also let the cat out of the bag early during a Live interview in which he said, “We’re excited to see. They’re all worthy, and I’m sad to see Nat come in third because they all should be first. But that’s not how it works.”

But Bassingthwaighte’s third place had not yet been broadcast.

Co-host Dr. Chris Brown attempted to smooth over the gaffe by claiming it as a Hussain “prediction.”

A Network TEN spokesperson told News Corp: “Nazeem Hussain accidentally told audiences that Natalie Bassingthwaighte was the third runner-up. Nazeem believed that this had already been announced on air.”

Meanwhile Donovan, who was driving Uber in between engagements before joining the TEN series, says the experience has given her renewed strength to stand up for herself in the face of criticism.

“This has definitely taught me a lot of new ropes to pull and dangle, and hang from. So it’s (about) facing them when they arise, biting that bullet and not taking any crap,” she said.

“Every challenge has pushed my buttons in some way, shape or form.”

  1. So glad she won, ok so she didnt do all the challenges but was one of the nicest & most genuine contestants. The biggest minus for this season (apart from Tom Arnold) was the amount of advertisements in each show, pretty sure there was even more than last year which was pretty bad. I ended up recording nearly everytime so i could forward thru the ads.
Also it went overtime by around 10 mins nearly every single night, i think it was closer to about 14 in the finale. (according to my epg anyway).

  2. I loved watching this show! Was definitely one of my favs over MKR & MAFS. The show was fun and entertaining the cast was a good mix.
    Congrats to Casey!!?

  3. Apart from that slight slip up by Naz, I think the finale was well produced this year. Especially with the final 2 getting equal treatment in the review of their time in the jungle before the winner was announced. Not a bad season…most of the camp were good fun…Tom was Tom,enough said, Keira was both immensely annoying and slightly watchable, Ash came over as a wannabee and the rest had some genuine talent

    1. Good on you Casey !
Have really enjoyed this season – fun and entertaining.
Agree that there was a good mix of contestants this year, overall. I didn’t mind Ash – not the most likeable but found her highly watcheable.
Tziporah was just plain bizarre at times but created plenty of conflict in camp. Perhaps too much too soon after living a very secluded life for years..

  4. Lol. Naz was awesome, even if he ticked a few people off by letting the cat out of the bag. I was hoping it would come down to him and Casey in the end. Really enjoyed the series this year. Wish it had been the one giving MKR the run for its money rather than MAFS. 🙂

  5. I think the reason Nazeem stuffed up was that they had already filmed the segment of Nat been eliminated and he assumed it had already been shown. If you look at the TV behind the presenters just after he spoke there is only Casey and Dane sitting there instead of all 3. The show may not be as “Live” as they make it out to be.

  6. Congratulations Casey! Now she has beaten Anthony Callea twice. I don’t know what got her so worried in the Gross Train tucker trail. How awkward for Nazeem. Hail Casey Donovan the Queen of the Jungle!
