  1. Again low ratings for a night of TV compared to overnights last year, interestingly the now dumped/we may make Telemovies of it yet Doctor Blake Mysteries on ABC was the number one program last year at this time with 858,000. Seven News down 54,000 and Nine News down 42,000 on their number 2 and 3 positions last year, however with Broadchurch as the replacement for The Doctor Blake Mysteries that’s a whopping 289,000 difference for the ABC.

    Last year via: http://www.tvtonight.com.au/2016/03/friday-11-march-2016.html

  2. I watched The Theory of Everything last night. Don’t usually watch movies on free to air, but found this one really interesting and fascinating on the life of Stephen Hawking.

  3. Secret Squïrrel

I wouldn’t call a 12% drop for Broadchurch “huge” but it’s not good for an established series. It does have to build from a weak lead-in of 371k tho’.

I agree that the second season was terrible (or at least the 1½ eps that I watched were). I thought this one started more strongly but I struggled to force myself to watch to the end of last night’s ep. The are some really good performances, especially the rape-victim and Coleman is always good but I was still bored and didn’t really care about what was happening.

I find the tactic of having everyone stare at the police as they walk off while ominous music builds to be cheap and irritating. Might as well just have a sign saying “Suspect” in capital letters splashed across the screen like in A Current Affair. Don’t think I’ll be back next week.

  4. jezza the first original one

Yeah huge drop off in Broadchurch. I totally agree with the verdict on the second series, it was dreadful after the first. Just waiting for the verdict on part 3 of Black Work after it has aired next week.

    • Recorded Black Work. Enjoying it so far. Much more compelling than Broadchurch. Looks like the lack of interest in Broadchurch on social media and generally negative reviews mean it is going to really drop like a stone and I think there are six more weeks. Maybe ABC were contracted to screen all three series. But whatever, they got stuck with a right old load of cobblers. Better to put on a repeat of Doc Martin or Dr Blake. Something better written which people actually enjoy and which have good brisk plotting. Broadchurch is just so slowwww and dulllll.

  5. 7flix was the #2 multi-channel last night.

Looks like the four prime-time movies did fairly well?

Nine got the win this Friday, thanks to a combination of 6pm News, NRL, “Good Will Hunting” in Melbourne & multi-channels.

However last week, Nine won Thursday but lost Friday.

This week Nine lost Thursday but won Friday.

So Seven still well out in front & will yet again win the week (also less than two weeks for NRL).

  6. Looks like I am not the only one who abandoned Broadchurch this week after a pretty uninspiring first episode. It really has lost its appeal after the truly awful second series. Wonder how low it will go after starting so low and then losing such a large number of viewers after only one episode. It used to have around 800k to 900k viewers regularly in the first series. Probably doesn’t matter as this is the last series anyway. A real pity that it is such a pale shadow of its former self after being a very good watch in the first series. It’s just rubbish now.

  7. Good win for 9 last night thanks in part to the NRL. Considering NRL is shown also on Foxtel the ratings were good for the 2 NRL markets Sydney and Brisbane. Big match for QLD with the Broncos playing the Cowboys.
