Guest this week on Home Delivery is academic, author and social commentator Susan Carland who has become a go-to voice for the modern Muslim experience in Australia.
In this episode of Home Delivery, Susan takes the wheel of a vintage orange sigma just like the one her mother drove, and chauffeurs Julia to Forest Hill in the Melbourne suburbs.
At the old family home, Susan confesses to a first girlhood crush on Yahoo Serious of Young Einstein fame and to being a chatty kid who never shut up. She describes herself as a swotty, conscientious student and recalls some bittersweet memories of life in the home before and after her parents separation. She tells Julia why she converted to Islam as a very young woman and corrects the misassumption that she converted when she met her husband, Waleed Aly, when in fact she made this significant decision some years before they met.
8pm Wednesday on ABC.
