MKR participants say comment went too far

Cooking show turns the heat up on language not cuisine.

My Kitchen Rules contestants have hit back at the word “slut” being dropped by Josh in an episode that aired last night.

“Josh definitely crossed the line with that comment,” Amy Murr told News Corp. “He didn’t use very good judgment.

“We all know that Josh is a bit of a shit-stirrer and likes to get reactions out of people by saying things he probably shouldn’t.

“But that comment was taking it too far. To have him say that was quite upsetting.”

Meanwhile Karen told Fairfax Media: “That is how Josh is; he’s a bit controversial and he does have an opinion but the thing that upset me the most was how he attacked Amy, his wife, when he’s cooking and I think it’s really unnecessary some of the things he said and even the way he speaks to Amy.

“From my point of view there’s no need for it and we’re in a cooking show and it’s about respecting the people around the table and yes, have an opinion but you don’t need to treat anyone like that. It just got on my goat.”

Yesterday Josh blamed producers for comments seen on the show, claiming he was coerced into quotes used.

“Amy’s joking with me, I just wanted to joke back,” he said. “I just hope that she knows it’s a joke. [I’m] just trying to break the entree tensions.”

“There was no way he was pushed into saying ‘Thanks slut’ when you have two people sitting next to you. No way have Channel Seven said that to him. He’s an adult and he makes those decisions and it was his choice to say that. And anyone would know that, that’s disrespectful,” Karen insisted.

Despite the hullabaloo, Amy confirmed, “He now understands very clearly that it is never appropriate or funny to say that to someone. He apologised. He was very sincere in his apology. I accepted that apology.”

Seven declined to comment.

  1. its all fake anyway. Just like the “shocking” content that is on MAFS. its all fake and exaggerated for the cameras or edited by producers to make a big deal out of nothing. its even present in the promos. Seven and Nine are the best/worst at that depending on you point of view. TEN are not anymore. There promos are lame, back in the day there promos were awesome. At least seven and Nine pull out all the stops to make sure you are interested in watching. Still its all for show and getting a new deal post the show either on tv radio, spreads in magazines etc.

Does this contestant realise she is on MKR & not Masterchef?

  3. Oh confected outrage. They thrive on it.

Next season they should get a white supremacist couple and a Muslim couple.

Why pretend that the networks don’t love and push for this sort of content?

  4. ita disgusting! I don’t watch the show but the incessant ads featuring this incident make it hard to not know. To me it’s bullying. Just watching the ads that are so hard to escape, shows the main focus is on the adults behaving badly and less on their culinary skills.
