Nine headquarters confirmed for North Sydney tower

Nine set for a new home in 2020.

As previously rumoured, the Nine Network will relocate to North Sydney’s tallest tower when it vacates its historic Willoughby studios.

The Australian Financial Review reports has now struck a 15,500 square metre leasing deal over 12 years for the new 39-storey, tower at 1 Denison Street.

It will include a street level news studio, visible to public.

Due for completion in 2020, it is being developed on the site of the North Sydney Shopping World, and will incorporate two levels of luxury shopping and restaurants as well as about 60,000 sq m of upper-level office space.

Other sites said to have been considered were Gore Hill, the former home of the ABC and the Entertainment Quarter at Moore Park.

Nine’s Willoughby studios, which have been its headquarters for 60 years, were sold for $147.5 million but it retains a lease until 2021.

It previously sold its historic Richmond studios for a Docklands site in Melbourne in 2011 and opened new Perth & Adelaide studios in the last 18 months.

  1. “The Nine Network will relocate to North Sydney” I assume you mean TCN9. Obviously the other stations in the network will stay where they are?

    1. The “Nine Network” is owned by Nine Entertainment Co. which has its “Headquarters -Willoughby, New South Wales”. Except for 6pm News and a weekly Footy Show “the other stations in the network” are mere relay stations these days, unfortunately.

    1. If they do, just wait for Sunrise to call foul on that move (by which stage 9 will call foul on 7 for basically ripping off one of their shows and the endless cycle of pettiness will continue until the end of days.)
