New US teen series Riverdale has been renewed by The CW.
The re-imagining of the Archie comics has been averaging 1.16 million US viewers but adds a healthy 78% in the coveted 18-34 demographic in Live+7 ratings.
Together with the network’s massive output deal with Netflix it is enough to win a second instalment of the series dubbed ‘Gossip Girl meets Twin Peaks.’
The series from Berlanti Productions stars NZ actor K.J. Apa and screens in Australia on Netflix.

Comparing this to Lynch’s Twin Peaks is a insult to the show and great TV in general.
I’m enjoying Riverdale and news of S2 gets a big tick from my household.
I grew up on a steady diet of Archie comics. I’m enjoying the series (I’m well outside the demographic). Nothing like the Archie I knew as a kid. But interesting. And the casting of the main characters is pretty spot on imo. My teenage daughter loves it more than me though.
I grew up with the Archies and Josie and the Pussycats cartoon series. I was a bit beside myself when I heard of all the race bending, particularly with Josie and Melody. But it does look good, its a shame it isn’t on Fox8 with the other CW comic book shows.
I outside the demo for this show – but I did read the comics as a kid as my Uncle had left them for me – I couldn’t sleep the other night and decided to have a look at the first ep. I watched 3 in a row and was up until 4am – but it is very very well done. If you like the comics you will love this. I will watch the rest, and am glad it has a second season..
Yeah I read them too as a kid. A family friend (an adult) used to buy and read them and then she gave them to us once she finished them. I remember they were so squeaky clean! So will have to check this series out to see how they have ‘re-imagined’ it.
