Renewed: The Expanse

US space drama will return with another 13 episodes in 2018.

US space drama The Expanse has been renewed for a third season.

The Syfy series, which screens in Australia on Netflix, will return with another 13 episodes in 2018.

Starring Steven Strait, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Dominique Tipper, Cas Anvar, Wes Chatham and Frankie Adams, it is based on book series by Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck.

The Expanse is a gorgeous, thrilling, emotional series that has quite simply raised the bar for science fiction on television,” said Chris McCumber, president of entertainment networks at NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment. “We, along with the fans, are looking forward to continuing the journey with our partners at Alcon Television Group and the series’ brilliant cast and crew.”

  1. Season 2 of ‘The Expanse’ is yet to start on Netflix even though it has been screening overseas on Syfy for some weeks. Is the 2018 release for Season 2 and not Season 3, if so this means it will be two years before Season 3 is released in Australia. Considering Kiefer Sullivan’s ‘Designated Survivor” is being shown weekly with it’s new season what kind of contract agreement does Netflix have regarding ‘The Expanse’?.

    1. Apparently SyFy Australia is responsible for the delay in season 2 playing on Netflix. SyFy hold the broadcast rights, although have no intention of airing it, and Netflix have to wait until the season has finished airing the entire season in the US before they can have it.

No wonder people find other ways of viewing, when comapnies like SyFy and Foxtel have such contempt for Australian audiences.

      1. It’s curious that ‘The Expanse’ is not shown in all regions with access to Netflix as NZ’s version will not have it and nor will the USA because of Syfy. Recent reading suggests that Netflix will have an Australian broadcast date sometime in late May, we shall have to wait in hope.
