Airdate: Russell Brand: A Second Coming

SBS screens the documentary following Russell Brand's rise from comedian to activist.

SBS screens the documentary Russell Brand: A Second Coming on Sunday night, by filmmaker Ondi Timoner.

Released in 2015 as Brand: A Second Coming, it follows the UK comedian’s rise from comedian to activist, but is a film he is reportedly not happy with.

Actor, comedian and activist Russell Brand’s journey from addict, self-proclaimed narcissist and Hollywood star living in the fast-lane to his current and unexpected role as political disruptor and newfound hero to the underserved.

Criticised for egomaniacal self-interest, Brand injects his madness into the world and calls for revolution. He stays the course with an irreverent courage that inspires a new generation of activists to rise up against the ever-increasing world engorged in consumerism.

Brand’s greatest challenge is to rise against the roar of criticism from the very system that built him, with the fortitude, resilience and commitment to keep up the fight. As he explores iconic figures like Gandhi, Malcolm X, Che Guevara, and Jesus, he transforms himself into a political antagonist. Russell Brand: A Second Coming is an intimate look at what drives Russell Brand as he continues to be the consummate disruptor.

Sunday, 28 May at 10.30pm on SBS.
