FOX News Founder, Roger Ailes dies

Former US executive who stepped down in 2016 amid allegations of harassment, has died.

Roger Ailes, best known as the founder of FOX News channel, has died aged 77.

He died from complications following a head injury from a fall at his home. There was no evidence of foul play according to the medical examiner’s report.

Ailes ran FOX News since its launch in 1996, to popular success.

But he stepped down in 2016 amid allegations of harassment, including by a former news anchor Gretchen Carlson. That lawsuit was settled last September for an unspecified amount, though media reports said Carlson was to receive $US20 million ($A27 million).

He received a severance package of about $US40 million ($54 million) when he left FOX News, according to sources.

Elizabeth Ailes said in a statement, “I am profoundly sad and heartbroken to report that my husband, Roger Ailes, passed away this morning.”
