Netflix nearing more Arrested Development

"Just officially signed on," Jason Bateman reveals.

Netflix is bringing back Arrested Development for season 5 and Jason Bateman is returning.

Bateman tweeted yesterday that he has officially signed onto more of the comedy, which it revived in 2013.

The Hollywood Reporter claims creator Mitchell Hurwitz’s deal was done weeks ago, with the writers room starting up shortly thereafter.

In April 2015, executive producer Brian Grazer confirmed that a fifth season was in development and would consist of 17 episodes. Whether that number still stands is unclear.

Last year Hurwitz said: “It’ll happen. It’ll definitely happen. Not before the election, but it’s definitely going to happen. I say that because the actors want to do it, the studio wants to do it, Netflix wants to do it, I want to do it. It’s just making it happen. There’s no one resisting.”

Netflix declined to comment.

  1. I’ve been binge watching from season 1 this week for what must surely be my fifth or sixth complete watch-through. Really hope they do a more linear story than season four.

  2. This is fantastic news obviously. My one hope though, is for it not to be individual character based episodes like the average Season 4 (I know that was done due to scheduling of the actors)… but Arrested Development is at its best when the Bluth family have nothing to do and are bickering and misunderstanding situations… that’s where the rich comedy gold comes from…
