No honeymoon for Last Resort

Ratings: With 2 episodes under 500,000 Nine faces tough decisions on its newest reality series.

Nine’s new reality series The Last Resort has struggled once more in its second outing.

In episode 2 couples’ love was tested as they watch their partner “marry” someone else in mock weddings. But the show barely lifted from 414,000 in its premiere to 435,000 last night.

It was again beaten by MasterChef Australia -despite its negative publicity this week- on 876,000 and House Rules on 751,000. With 2 episodes under 500,000, Nine now faces some tough decisions about whether it believes numbers will rise.

Elsewhere last night Anh’s Brush with Fame and The Weekly both lifted on last week. Seven’s new Aussie Property Flippers was down, beaten by Britain’s Got Talent. Eurovision Top 40 Songs was modest at 240,000 for SBS.

  1. I’m still trying to get my head around the ethics of a Psychologist being intimately involved in a show where part of couple’s “therapy” requires them to pretend to marry someone else while their partner watches on.

What happens if two of the brides both turn up in white?

      1. Cool. Look fwd to reading about that.

I wonder if the Psychology Board of Australia has a view on these types of activities?

  2. Around 7:35pm the cat stepped on the remote’s 9 button. Before I could change it back to something else I noticed two utterances of the f-word within a few seconds of each other. ‘Bleeped’ the audio may have been but it was very clear from the vision as to what the female was saying. Charming 7:30 “family” entertainment Nine.

    1. Changes to the Free TV Code of Practice (effective from 1st December 2015) allow PG content to air all day on any channel, and M rated content from 7:30pm onwards (except theatrical films that have been classified by the ACB; they can only air after 8:30pm), so F-bombs can be dropped quite liberally from 7:30pm.

  3. I think 9 will give Last Resort one more week. Its numbers did rise from Tuesday and they promoted it very heavily and they want to get as much in return for how heavily they promoted it.
