SBS on Demand adds Chromecast to iOS

SBS On Demand makes it much easier to cast programs onto TV screens.

SBS On Demand is now available with Chromecast functionality on iOS devices, which will make it much easier for many viewers to cast programs on their TV screens.

Just in time for Fargo, which has its first episode now available.

Already available on Android, the Chromecast upgrade comes at the same time as the streaming service announces the exclusive Australian premiere of the highly anticipated adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s award-winning novel The Handmaid’s Tale – available to stream in full from Thursday 6 July.

Last year, SBS On Demand rolled out a complete user interface upgrade to enhance user experience, including a brand new video player, smoother navigation, improved search functionality, ability to add shows to a favourites list, and playback resumption.

SBS On Demand is a world of inspired entertainment – a curated selection of over 6,000 hours of premium world class-drama, documentaries and movies from across the globe.

  1. Good effort SBS. Watched The Young Pope on SBS last night, effortlessly from my iPad. We just need IOS Chromecast support for 7Plus (plaudits to Seven for adding Chromecast Android support) and IOS and Android Chromecast support for Tenplay to make the whole suite of free-to-air channels Chromecast-enabled, including Melbourne community TV channel C31, which has been Chromecast enabled for some time. If a tiny, cash-strapped station like C31 can do it, why not Ten (IOS and Android Chromecast) and Seven (IOS)?

  2. Perhaps the public broadcasters can pass this seemingly top secret trade resource onto TEN and Seven who continue not to have Chromecast support. It’s crazy that in this competitive world we live in only one commercial network has Chromecast support.

    1. Apologies it appears the latest Android update for Plus7 has Chromecast support! Now it is just Tenplay – the worst catch up app available – to add Chromecast. And I don’t think it’ll be any time soon given the app hasn’t been updated since December 2016!

        1. ABC iView were the first to add Chromecast support, I believe only months after Chromecast’s launch in 2014 (don’t quote me on that though).

          1. August last year was when Chromecast support for iView was rolled out. Must have been a while before then I would have tried to use it ;P
