BBC delays UK broadcasts following Grenfell Tower fire

BBC holds off episodes of an arts documentary and new talent show following UK tragedy.

The BBC has made two changes to its scheduling following last week’s tragic fire at Grenfell Tower.

BBC2 arts documentary Venice Biennale: Sink or Swim was due to feature a collection of photography by Artist Khadija Saye, who died during Wednesday’s tragedy.

A BBC spokesperson told RadioTimes.com: “The BBC Two programme Venice Biennale: Sink or Swim features various artists, one of whom is Khadija Saye. Our deepest sympathies are with Khadija’s family and friends and all of those affected by the Grenfell Tower fire.

“We have made the decision to postpone the programme and further information about the transmission will be made available in due course.”

Meanwhile new singing talent show Pitch Battle opted to premiere with a different episode as the themes and lyrics featured were deemed inappropriate to broadcast so close to the tragedy.

The series, which will also feature The Voice‘s Seal, kicked off with an episode featuring guest judge Will Young.

So far 58 people have been reported as deceased following the tragedy and the number is expected to rise.
