Genius to paint Picasso drama

Ron Howard drama will bring Spanish painter's story to life for National Geographic.

Season 2 of National Geographic drama Genius will bring Spanish painter Pablo Picasso’s story to life.

The series, which saw Geoffrey Rush play Einstein, has moved to an anthology model under producers Ron Howard & Brian Grazer. Ken Biller returns as showrunner.

“The remarkable story of artistic visionary Pablo Picasso is the perfect subject for season two of Genius,” Ron Howard said in a statement. “Picasso was a trailblazer who left a profound artistic and cultural impact on the world and we look forward to continuing our successful partnership with National Geographic and FOX 21 Television Studios in telling the untold story behind the brilliant individual.”

“Picasso is arguably one of the most influential artists of the last century with a life story almost too fantastic to be reality. It’s the perfect next chapter for Ron, Brian, Ken and this franchise,” Bert Salke, president of FOX 21 Television Studios said.

Genius, which represented a push from documentary to dramas, was National Geographic’s best performing new series launch.

Casting suggestions? Ben Kingsley? Anthony Hopkins? Guess we can rule out Daniel Day-Lewis.

  1. Casting Suggestions ? In the spirit of other anthologies which re-cast actors in different roiles in subsequent series – you could do a lot worse than Geoffrey Rush as Picasso ?
