Johanna Griggs to Woman’s Day: “Bollocks!”

"This is just crap that you've made up!" House Rules host fires at magazine.

House Rules & Better Homes and Gardens host Johanna Griggs has taken aim at Woman’s Day magazine after an article headlined “Joh snaps. Enough is enough.”

The magazine quoted an unnamed ‘TV insider’ who suggested Griggs is “crumbling under the pressure of keeping up appearances” and is concerned the “drama” could “damage her career.”

In an Instagram post Griggs hit back at the magazine:

“I see you are at it again, writing bollocks. For the record: I don’t feel stuck between the judges. I’m not worried about my career, and I’m really not feeling any angst at all about this year’s series. It takes a lot to make me snap… and possibly the closest I’ve ever got is the frustration I feel when I read such rubbish. This is just crap that you’ve made up to try and have a dig at #Houserules which FYI has just been renewed again for another season. Oh and that pic you have used is several years old! #fictionandmakebelieve #womansday #makinguprubbishforyears

Griggs has previously taken aim at New Idea, part of Seven’s own Pacific Magazine stable. In 2013 she tweeted: Just read yet another made up cover story in new idea where they pretend I’ve spoken to them. I haven’t. Nice work @NewIdeamagazine #fiction

Woman’s Day is at the centre of a Bauer Media defamation case launched by Rebel Wilson, currently underway in Melbourne.

  1. These magazines do make up stories. And they get away with it week after week. At least Rebel is taking a stand. And now Joanna. Stop buying the magazines.

  2. For many decades, the AWW was a respected publication. WD was always a bit “cheaper”. But now, they are both vying for the ground once occupied by the now extinct The Truth, where “creative” interpretation was a hallmark. What next from AWW and WD – “Martians land in Fitzroy Gardens”.

The days of these magazines is clearly over – just do journalism a favour and go away.

    1. I know this is a television website, but commenting on magazines is appropriate when they print rubbish about TV people. Strangely, though I used to like ‘The Truth’, especially for the column ‘Dyer ‘Ere’ a fun read from Captain Blood Jack Dyer. I hope he and Lou have caught up in heaven!

  3. Good on you Johanna, as Dawn Lake used to say “You tell ’em luv”. Australia’s women’s magazines have deteriorated into the greatest load of rubbish imaginable, A far cry from the ‘Women’s Weekly’ of years ago. I won’t have them in the house and I can’t understand the mentality of those who lap them up. Our publishers should take a leaf out of their British counterparts who have two excellent weeklies in “English Woman’s Weekly” and “The People’s Friend”.

  4. Good on her for standing up to these magazines… though perhaps she should also hammer on the door of the boss of Seven’s publishing arm. You’d have thought she would have some decent clout in that regard, given she must be comfortably up there within the top half-dozen Channel Seven stars.

  5. I do not even read the covers of these mags while standing in a checkout queue…certainly would never spend money to read what may be inside….
The magazine wars ruined both publications….for me….
