Mediation fails in separate Rebel Wilson vs journalist case

Case surrounding Rebel Wilson criticising wrong journalist on social media heads to court in August.

A separate case between Rebel Wilson and a Bauer Media journalist will be the subject of a defamation hearing in August.

The case surrounds a 2016 Twitter tirade in which the actress took aim at Bauer journalist Elizabeth Wilson, following an article which she says harassed her elderly grandmother.

But there were two journalists named Elizabeth Wilson at Bauer Media and she had not tweeted to the correct author.

Elizabeth Wilson, who was features editor for House & Garden magazine, is expected to argue she was subjected to abuse by Wilson’s 2.5m Twitter followers and that it took too long to be rectified.

The case has been referenced in the current trial, underway in Victoria, in which the actress is suing the publisher for defamation across a series of articles.

A hearing date has been set down for August 14th in the NSW Supreme Court.
