Multichannel Survey 2017: ONE / ELEVEN

TEN's multichannels target men aged 25 and over, and viewers aged 16-39.

This week TV Tonight features the sixth annual Multichannel Survey, profiling the five Free to Air broadcasters.

We begin with ONE and ELEVEN.

Since the last survey ONE has risen in share, targeting males aged 25 and over. From October 2017, it will include Saturday night A-League matches.

ELEVEN continues to target viewers 16 to 39, with Neighbours as the only scripted weekly drama on multichannels, increasing in total viewers on 2016.

  1. One is possibly the most confusing channel I’ve seen. It’s genre of programming keeps changing around with almost every program. Its trying to be a male 9Gem. I find that it also has a lack of great first run titles.
Eleven is waaaaay behind on most programming. Such as Bob’s Burgers Season 7 which finished around a week or two ago in the US. Considering its a CBS joint venture the majority of its programming is sourced from FOX with a very minimal amount of programming from The CW (owned by CBS) and almost none from CBS which also confuses me. Whats the point of CBS owning a bit of Eleven when all CBS’ programming ends up on Ten and One?
I feel Ten’s multichanels are just there because they feel since everyone else has them so they need them to. They have potential but aren’t using them to their full strength. Especially One.

  2. The answer to tech playout is not detailed enough from the networks. It should read (as an example) MPEG2, SD, 576i, 9mbps with 256kbps audio

  3. When I read the upcoming first run titles section for Eleven I can see a yawning chasm of CBS content that will shortly vanish and that will need to be filled with endless repeats of JAG, Charmed and lots of Gogglebox and Masterchef encores of encores by request! My prediction is rating for Eleven to fall off a cliff by this time next year…

As for One – its programming is an incoherent hot steaming mess despite what the Ten spindoctors try to tell us.

  4. Pedants Unite! Gotta love those TV spin doctors. The finale ep of HIMYM was shown on Network 7 in 2014 and yet the series is still a “First Run” on ELEVEN. The final ep caused such controversy that a 2nd ending was filmed and added to the DVD. CBS made HIMYM and are part owners of ELEVEN.
MacGyver’s “First Run” on Channel 9 finished in 1992.

    1. Ten mean the 2016 reboot of MacGyver. Started the season on Ten on a Saturday night, ended the season on One 7.30pm Mondays. Currently there are repeats of it in this timeslot.
As for HIMYM, its not even a first run on Eleven any more!
To be fair, cannot remember anything outside of Graceland that’s a first run title for FTA on One/Eleven.

  5. Thank you David, fantastic article, very interesting 🙂

Interesting to see “Malcolm in the Middle” as a recent success story, given its previous runs on Ten in summer years ago, it’s a good program.

          1. Yes Amy. The 5 capital city metro airs HIMYM in that timeslot, where it is Win (incl country Vic) its Acropolis Now.
