9 men recreate Captain Bligh's gruelling journey following the mutiny on The Bounty.

Mutiny is a 5 part UK series in which SAS: Who Dares Wins chief instructor Anthony Middleton is one of 9 men trying to recreate Captain Bligh’s gruelling journey following the mutiny on The Bounty.

Over 200 years ago, British navy ship HMS Bounty sailed from Tahiti to the West Indies. During its 17-month voyage a poisonous rift developed between its crew and its tough young captain, William Bligh. In the middle of the South Pacific, rebellion broke out.

Captain Bligh and a handful of loyal men were forced into a tiny open boat and left to die. Instead they managed to navigate 4,000 miles to safety, through some of the world’s most remote and unforgiving sea.

For the first time, nine men are setting out to make the same gruelling journey in a replica seven metre-long wooden boat, with the same rations, facing the same conditions to measure themselves against history. For company, they will have Bligh’s own words in the form of a detailed journal he kept which remarkably survived the voyage. It will help them uncover the secrets of survival and to get a closer understanding of Bligh’s epic feat.

Can today’s men measure up to the extraordinary achievements of their predecessors?

Episode One:
Anthony Middleton steps into Captain Bligh’s shoes, joined by a carpenter, a doctor and some specialist sailors. They battle storms, reefs and Australia’s shark-infested waters. Adrift in the Pacific Ocean, the men set out to recreate one of the greatest feats ever.

  1. I seem to recall there was a very similar program a few years ago with a descendant of William Bligh as commander, recreating the epic open boat voyage.
