Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy: promo

Of all the Diana docos doing the rounds right now, this one appears to have the edge.

ITV has released a promo for Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy, which includes interviews with Princes William and Harry.

Of all the Diana docos doing the rounds as part of the 20th anniversary of her death, this one by the producers of Our Queen at 90, looks to have the edge.

Seven has the rights for this in Australia but is yet to announce the airdate.

The documentary is being shown on ITV later this month to celebrate the life and work of Diana, Princess of Wales, in the 20th year since her tragic death. Made by Oxford Film and Television, producers of ITV’s ‘Our Queen at 90’, the film is built around contributions from HRH The Duke of Cambridge and HRH Prince Harry, both of whom talk openly about their mother and pay tribute to the many ways her influence has shaped their lives.

In the promo – which premiered on ITV Saturday 8 July – the brothers look through a private family album that was assembled by their mother and recall some of the most joyful and touching moments from their childhood. Studying a photo of The Princess holding him whilst pregnant with Prince Harry, Prince William says: “Believe it or not, you and I are both in this photograph, you’re in the tummy!”

Prince Harry says: “This is the first time that the two of us have ever spoken about her as a mother.”

Prince William says: “She was very informal and really enjoyed the laughter and the fun.

Prince Harry says: “She was one of the naughtiest parents.”

Prince William says: “But she understood that there was a real life outside of Palace walls.”

Prince Harry: “She was our mum. She still is our mum. And of course, as a son I would say this, she was the best mum in the world. She smothered us with love, that’s for sure.”

The documentary is commissioned for ITV by Jo Clinton-Davis, Controller of Factual and Sue Murphy, Head of Factual Entertainment.

Jo says: “This new ITV film will offer viewers a fresh and revealing insight into Princess Diana through the personal and intimate reflections of her two sons and of her friends and family, many of whom have never spoken before, to bring together a definitive portrait of a unique person who touched the lives of millions.”

The film’s Executive Producer at Oxford Film and Television is Nick Kent, and the Producer / Director is Ashley Gething.

Nick said: “This film will show Princess Diana in a way she has never been seen before, through the eyes of the two people who knew her best.”
