Another Princess Diana special Diana: The Day the World Cried is coming to screen, this time on Nine.

Diana: The Day the World Cried, narrated by Kate Winslet, tells the story of the funeral of the Princess of Wales 20 years on, through the memories of people who played a part in it, many speaking for the first time. They include those who worked under great pressure behind the scenes, such as Sir Malcolm Ross, who had just six days to plan the funeral service at Westminster Abbey, and chief pallbearer Captain Richard Williams, who had the weight of the United Kingdom on his and his men’s shoulders.

This gripping documentary features previously unseen archival footage and exclusive interviews with key decision-makers and mourners, shedding new light on an unforgettable day in history.

Wednesday, September 6, 2017, marks the 20th anniversary of Diana’s funeral. The international impact made it one of the most-watched events in history. One million people lined the streets of London for the funeral procession, while 2.5 billion people around the world watched on television.

Sunday, September 3, at 9.40pm on Nine.

  1. How many Diana documentaries do there need to be! Once was enough (and arguably too much in my opinion) but three in relatively quick succession is way too much.

When we have another republic vote in the future (I’m sure we will have one at some point), we can guess which side free to air TV will be on.

  2. We all loved Diana and most people would agree that everything points to the fact she was not treated well by the Royal family which in itself was a shame and she really led a lonely life, however nothing can be changed from the past and I do think that she should be left in peace now and not keep opening old wounds for so many people, how many more programmes are going to be shown of the same thing.

  3. I was wondering why 9 seemed to be the only channel not showing a Diana special. Ch 7 seemed to get them all. I’ll never forget Diana’s funeral. My friends & I were travelling & were in King’s Canyon that night. We went for dinner at the local club & they had a TV with the funeral on. They called our number & we had to walk over to the counter with our shoes clop clop clopping on the floor. Never have I felt so self conscious.. Everyone was so quiet & solemn watching the funeral, we just quickly ate our dinner & went back to our room to watch it in private. We were all in shock & couldn’t believe it had happened.
