House Husbands “not coming back” -is Love Child next?

"We’re not coming back; let’s just say it," says Rhys Muldoon, but Nine is yet to confirm its plans.

House Husbands cast member Rhys Muldoon is convinced the series is not returning for a sixth season.

“They are doing that thing where they go we are not saying yes but we are not saying no; that means no,” he told News Corp last week.

“We’ve done five seasons. We’re not coming back; let’s just say it.”

Another cast member has told me, chances of a return indeed looked “slim.” In March Firass Dirani publicly stated he too was ready to move on.

“If they want to do six seasons, I’m happy to close that book,” he said.

Muldoon will appear in 2018 SBS drama Dead Lucky, which is created by House Husbands-own Ellie Beaumont & Drew Proffitt through Subtext Pictures.

Meanwhile a key cast member of Love Child recently told me they were yet to be locked down for any 5th season by Nine. The show’s period costs will be a consideration.

Sony-owned Playmaker Media, which produces both dramas, has a new series on the way according to Create NSW funding, which is yet to be revealed, while the upcoming Easybeats miniseries is due on ABC later this year.

Nine’s Upfronts are due in October where it will formalise its upcoming and returning dramas.

  1. I returned to HH this year after stopping watching due to the political views being inserted. I was pleasantly surprised to find that I loved it again – the true aussie feel of it is so refreshing. However, the plotlines were becoming so outrageously implausible especially those relating to the hospital, that it was no longer possible to forgive the whimsy of the stories.

  2. Stopped watching both after 3rd season – not all shows are meant to go on season after season after season – often the original premise is well and truly lost – which to me was the problem with House Husbands. Time for new ideas…

  3. I have a feeling it won’t be renewed, but I love the show and I’m hoping for one last season. I think the kids would be in Year 6 by now, so it would be nice to finish up primary school.

    1. Agree.
Have enjoyed Lovechild but feel it has run its natural course and nothing much fresh would be achieved by dragging it out any longer.
House Husbands should have been retired 3 seasons ago – well past its use by date.
