Stan confirms NBCU deal

Deal includes Will & Grace, Rise and former seasons of Friday Night Lights and Parks and Recreation.

Stan has announced an exclusive deal with existing partner NBCUniversal that includes Will & Grace, Rise and former seasons of Friday Night Lights and Parks and Recreation.

The revived Will & Grace will premiere exclusively on September 29, the same day as the US. Rise, based on the young adult novel Drama High by Michael Sokolove and starring Josh Radnor (How I Met Your Mother), comprises 10 episodes.

Nick Forward, Stan’s Chief Content Officer said “NBCUniversal’s slate at this year’s L.A. Screenings was absolutely outstanding. Will & Grace and Rise are, without doubt, two of the year’s most anticipated shows, and Stan will be bringing them exclusively to Australian fans the same day as they premiere in the US. The ever-growing partnership with NBCUniversal continues to bring world class shows exclusively to Stan subscribers.”

A decade after their unforgettable eight-season run, comedy’s most fabulous foursome is back. Eric McCormack, Debra Messing, Megan Mullally and Sean Hayes reprise their infamous roles as Will, Grace, Karen and Jack in this exclusive revival. There will be 16-episodes in the first season and an early Season 2 pick-up was recently confirmed ahead of its US premiere.

The original Will & Grace series, which is currently streaming on Stan, was nominated for 83 Primetime Emmy Awards, winning 16 of them, including “Outstanding Comedy Series” and individual acting awards for each main cast member.

Building on the established partnership with NBCUniversal International Distribution, the deal also includes the hotly anticipated drama Rise. From the producers of Friday Night Lights and the Tony Award-winning musical Hamilton, the series stars Josh Radnor (How I Met Your Mother), Academy Award nominee Rosie Perez, and Auli’i Cravalho fresh from her title role in Disney’s Moana. Stan will stream the new series on the same day as its US Premiere in 2018.

Rise is a heartening new drama about finding inspiration in unexpected places. When dedicated teacher and family man Lou Mazzuchelli (Josh Radnor, How I Met Your Mother) sheds his own self-doubt and takes over the school’s lacklustre theatre department, he galvanizes not only the faculty and students, but the entire working-class town. Rise is inspired by a true story.

As well as making Stan the exclusive home of the all new Will & Grace and Rise, the deal will also bring favourites, Friday Night Lights and Parks and Recreation, to Stan.

Friday Night Lights expanded on the hit feature film and best-selling book of the same name. The award-winning series stars Kyle Chandler (Zero Dark Thirty, Carol) and Connie Britton (Nashville, American Horror Story) and centres on life in Dillon, Texas, where high school football brings the community together — and the drama of small town life threatens to tear it apart. The series was universally praised by critics and received multiple awards during its run, including Emmy® Awards for “Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series” (Kyle Chandler) and “Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series” (Jason Katims) and was named “Program of the Year” in its final season by the Television Critics Association.

Parks and Recreation is a hilarious ensemble comedy from Emmy Award-winning executive producers Greg Daniels (The Office, King of the Hill) and Michael Schur (The Good Place, The Office). The series follows Leslie Knope (Emmy and Golden Globe winner Amy Poehler, Saturday Night Live, Sisters), a mid-level bureaucrat in the Parks and Recreation Department of Pawnee, Indiana, and her tireless efforts to make her quintessentially American town just a little bit more fun.

Co-starring Aubrey Plaza (Legion), Chris Pratt (Jurassic World, Guardians of the Galaxy), Aziz Ansari (Master of None), Rashida Jones (Angie Tribeca), Nick Offerman (Fargo) and Adam Scott (Big Little Lies), amongst others.

Parks and Recreation won the Television Critics Association Award for “Outstanding Achievement in Comedy” in 2013 following four consecutive nominations and a Golden Globe Award for Amy Poehler for “Best Actress – Television Series Musical or Comedy”.

    1. And Ten annoying aired 4.25 seasons of FNL. But now Stan has exclusive rights to FNL in Australia (streaming or all isn’t stated). Seven still has an output deal with NBCU/ITV but they aren’t airing Will & Grace.
