Vale: Bruce Forsyth

Veteran Sir Bruce Forsyth, one of Britain's most-loved presenters, has died.

Veteran British television presenter Sir Bruce Forsyth, best known for entertainment shows The Generation Game & Strictly Come Dancing, has died, aged 89.

He had been unwell for some time and had undergone keyhole surgery in 2015 after suffering two aneurysms.

Forsyth is one of Britain’s most-loved presenters, is in the Guinness World Records for having had the longest on-screen television career for a male entertainer.

He fronted television shows including Play Your Cards Right, The Price is Right and The Generation Game, which at its peak attracted 20 million viewers. He presented Strictly Come Dancing for 10 years until 2014, and was known for such crowd-pleasing catchphrases as “Nice to see you, to see you nice” and “Give us a whirl!”

BBC Director General Tony Hall described him as “one of the greatest entertainers our country has ever known”.

“He has delighted millions of people and defined Saturday night television for decades … his warmth and his wit were legendary.

“He had a remarkable chemistry with his audience – that’s what made him such an amazing professional and why he was so loved.”

  1. I grew up with Brucie constantly on TV and never tired of him. A true television entertainer who managed to avoid any controversy and just be a great talent.

  2. ‘Nice to see you, to see you nice’. This was Bruce’s favourite introduction when on British television, he and Bob Monkhouse dominated the ubiquitous sixties and seventies TV games shows with Bruce also having the advantage of being an adept cheeky comedienne and a great song and dance man, R.I.P. Bruce.
