Airdate: Aaron Chen Tonight

Aaron Chen gets his own shot at TV fame next month due to circumstances beyond his control.

Comedian Aaron Chen gets his own shot at TV fame next month when Aaron Chen Tonight screens on ABC2.

As previously reported Chen was John Conway’s sidekick, but producers turned the spotlight when Conway took ill.

These episodes were recently filmed before an audience in Darlinghurst by GNTV.

Comedy ‘legend’ Aaron Chen is kicking goals in comedy: earlier this year he won best newcomer at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and then he got owned by sports fans on Twitter. You might remember him as the sports presenter who single handedly ruined the Liverpool v Sydney FC soccer match. And now he’s got his own Tonight Show!

As John Conway’s sidekick, Aaron dutifully stepped whilst John was sick and somehow managed to transform the show into his own.

Aaron Chen Tonight picks up where John Conway Tonight left off.

Now Chen leads a team of fresh-faced Aussie comedians who’ve come together to create an unruly and unforgettable TV experience. Will Erimya, Jenna Owen, Ben Russell, Penny Greenhalgh, Sam Campbell, Victoria Zerbst, Clinton Haines, Edan Lacey and special appearances from Tom Walker and Cassie Workman. These Aaron Chen Tonight players are a ragtag collection of clowns, improvisers, comics, writers, field hockey goalies, royal butlers, failed musicians and, above of, friends (as expected in their contracts).

There are chill interviews with crazy characters and real people: Georgia Love, Tom Ballard, Casey Donovan, DJ Douggpound, Justin Hamilton, and Jamie Timony.

Aaron Chen Tonight was staged very much within the bounds of a small café bar in Darlinghurst. It’s bright, colorful and delicious, but not safe to eat. It’s the little show that could…blow your socks off.

It’s got all the best bits of the periodic table – potassium nitrate levels of explosive energy and a heart of gold. It’s out of bounds, out of sight and sometimes out of frame, an absurdist extension of a tonight show.

Thursdays at 9.30pm from Thursday Oct 12 on ABC2.
