Airdate: Chasing the Light with Ray Martin

Ray Martin snaps Australian nature in the Kimberley with photographer, Ken Duncan.

Current SBS favourite Ray Martin has a second project on the channel this week, Chasing the Light with Ray Martin.

Martin, who is currently fronting Look Me in the Eye, turns his attention to all things photography for this doco, snapping Australian nature in the Kimberley with photographer, Ken Duncan.

When Australia’s most awarded photographer, Ken Duncan, sets out on an adventure assignment, he does so with a formidable and steel-like resolve to get the shot no matter what. It turns out that’s the required attitude, because the fierce wilderness of wild Australia forgives no one.

On this expedition with Ken is the legendary Ray Martin, Australia’s most celebrated and awarded journalists. Ray’s determined to get inside Ken’s head and understand what it is that separates Ken from the rest. For Ray, this is the photography adventure of a lifetime, if only he survives it.

They head to Western Australia’s wild Kimberley, at the tail of the big wet. Roads are impassable. Violent storms can knock a helicopter right out of the sky. The rivers are infested with saltwater crocodiles. There are mega tides, the second largest in the world, making the rivers and reefs treacherous. All of this, thousands of kilometres from help.

Chasing the Light blends breathtaking Australia, an epic photographic assignment, and the discovery that there’s much more behind a photograph than just pressing the shutter.
