Next month Foxtel Arts screens Kings of Baxter, a feature doco in which Bell Shakespeare foster juvenile prisoners on the Central Coast in a performance of Macbeth.
Kings of Baxter is a feature documentary following 14 juvenile justice detainees creating a production of Shakespeare’s Macbeth. The film documents Bell Shakespeare’s landmark education programme in Baxter Juvenile Detention Centre over three months of rehearsal, leading up to a final performance for friends, family and fellow inmates. Through observational footage and interviews Kings of Baxter explores life behind bars for these young men with a level of depth, beauty and resonance which starkly contrasts their harsh environment.
Thursday October 19 at 7.30pm on Foxtel Arts.
