Eddie wigs up as Nine clinches Thursday

Ratings: The Bachelorette tops entertainment shows, but lengthy Footy Show helps Nine win the night.

The Bachelorette was Thursday’s top entertainment show at 809,000 viewers.

It was down on last Thursday but still topped the demos for a second night in a row. Part of that may have been due to a public holiday eve in Melbourne and competition from Nine’s Footy Show grand final in an earlier slot.

While there will be temptations to compare final episodes of Nine & Seven AFL shows, it’s important to note both their running time and start times were not equal. However Nine’s finished higher at 432,000 than Seven’s on 299,000. Bizarrely World’s Funniest Top 10 Countdown outranked 515,000 its own AFL show, perhaps an indication that viewers swarmed to the Player Revue where it ran overtime. That saw Eddie McGuire impersonating Neil Diamond in a dedication to Caroline Wilson, and Rebecca Maddern and AFLW players bring down the curtain.

Glitch was down once more for ABC at a disappointing 215,000. TEN’s Wrong Girl was also down.

Seven News, ACA & The Chase won early slots.

Nine network won Thursday with 30.0% then Seven 28.3%, TEN 19.3%, ABC 14.3% and SBS 8.0%.

Nine News (885,000 / 845,000) was best for Nine then A Current Affair (756,000), World’s Funniest Top 10 Countdown (515,000), AFL Footy Show (432,000 in 3 cities), Hot Seat (423,000 / 273,000). The NRL Footy Show was 285,000 in 2 cities.

Seven News was #1 with 922,000 / 867,000 for Seven then Home and Away (623,000), The Chase (537,000 / 342,000) and The Front Bar (299,000 in 3 cities). Footy’s Funniest was 278,000 in 3 cities and a Make You LOL special was 238,000.

The Bachelorette won its slot for TEN with 809,000 then The Project (515,000 / 327,000), TEN Eyewitness News (408,000), The Wrong Girl (361,000) and Family Feud (282,000).

ABC News (687,000), 7:30 (521,000), Short Cuts to Glory: Matt Okine vs Food (279,000), Glitch (215,000) and Grand Designs (201,000) comprised ABC’s night. The Murder Detectives was just 122,000.

On SBS it was Great British Railway Journeys (308,000), Gourmet Farmer (273,000), Bosch (165,000), SBS World News (140,000).

7TWO’s Father Brown had a holy 254,000 on multichannels.

  1. Looks like Ten is going to have their best Thur line up for the yr next week and I think it goes like this but I could be wrong, now they just need to fix their Wed 8.30 and 9.30 slots 🙂
    7.30 New Bachelorette
    8.30 New GoogleBox
    9.30 New SVU!!

  2. Wrong girl was pretty good last night. The best episode so far this season. Pete’s a good character. There were some good scenes between him and lily last night particularly their confrontation about Lily’s engagement and she asks whether she should be marrying Jack and his response was “its not a fair question”. I liked his response. Some good writing there.

  3. Watched the first few segments of the front bar on delay and it was good. Thought they did a good job of their interview with Gil. I did flip over to the footy show towards the end to watch the player revue and thought it was the one of the better revue’s they have done in a long time. I particularly liked Craig Hutchinson’s inclusion. It was unexpected and well done.

  4. I agree with David. The Eddie McGuire performance wasn’t sexist at all.How could singing a classic song like Sweet Caroline be regarded as sexist?.If anything it was just a light hearted acknowledgement of the difficult relationship he’s had with Caroline Wilson.

      1. Well,i was trying to be diplomatic.Anyway,i didn’t find anything objectionable about his performance last night, which is what we’re talking about here

  5. Stayed up late to watch the Revue. Was not worth the effort, cringeworthy performance from the sexist McGuire. Absolutely appalled he has had another attack at a female. Enough is enough, time for him to stand down on a permanent basis. Casual sexism is not appropriate.

      1. He was stamping around dancing on a woman’s face, the same woman he hoped died from drowning. If that’s not sexist I don’t know what is.

        1. That’s not sexism, that would just be spite, even if it were true. What about when he was stomping on other parts of the staging? Feels like the aerial shot has you over-reaching. Lyrically the song is also not an attack.

  6. Very quiet night, even for a Thursday.
Glitch is so slow, but interestingly, it’s getting some very kind reviews on international genre fansites.
Slow and sleepy seemed to be a theme on ABC last night, as I watched Murder Detective after Glitch and it was likewise snail paced.

    1. The Murder Detectives…snail paced? Really? I found the series to be one of the most riveting and finely crafted factual crime series I’ve seen (and I’ve seen a lot). The two BAFTA Awards it won are testament to the series’ quality.
