Matildas victory impacts Tuesday viewing

Ratings: The Block has a good night but the Matildas match seemed to impact almost everybody else.

ABC2’s coverage of the Women’s International: Aus vs Brazil appeared to impact a shopping list of shows last night, with almost everyone down compared to last Tuesday.

The 2hr game drew 155,000 viewers across its broadcast, but notably ABC2’s share was 4.4% compared to 3.5% a week ago.

The Block however went up, from 1.18m to 1.24m, topping the demos and twice the size of First Dates, Australian Survivor and 7:30.

Big Bang‘s 735,000, 800 Words 633,000 were both down on last week, while Shark Tank ended its season in a later 9pm timeslot.

Seven News and ACA both won their slots. Catalyst was down for ABC too while an Attenborough repeat struggled to fill an 8pm slot. But hey, the trains were up for SBS.

  1. You keep knocking the trains, David 😉

In general they’re not my cup of tea either, but Michael Portillo’s “Great ____ Railway Journeys” are nice shows to just sit down in front of or have going in the background – slow enough that you don’t have to pay attention all the time, interesting enough in their way to hold you for a bit when you do look up…

      1. Well, gently knocking 😉 – it’s not like you’ve never taken the opportunity for a few friendly jabs at SBS for the number & ratings of their shows centred around trains…

  2. Rarely disagree with your ratings analysis but, even over 2 hours, 155K proportionally split between all of the remaining channels would have made negligible difference to final numbers of most shows. Some of them were even up on last week.

It was a good match but 155K is pretty ordinary for an international, even if it was a “friendly”. It’s clear that the women’s game just doesn’t have the draw of the men’s, even tho’ the ladies are killing it at the moment.

Gotta wonder what the numbers would have been if this had been on either Seven or Nine network.
