UK is reviving Dancing on Ice

But TV execs will be shuddering with horror at memories of Dancing on Ice in Australia....

ITV is reviving Dancing on Ice in the UK with Torvill & Dean to be reunited with original hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby.

In Britain the show ran for 9 seasons from 2006 – 2014 including with various themed specials for Christmas and with previous Champions.

In Australia a local version was a disaster for Nine in 2006. That series saw Jamie Durie hosting (standing on a box, no less), with Torvill & Dean as mentors. The celebrities included Karl Stefanovic, Jules Lund, Lara Bingle, Dermott Brereton, Michael Slater and Giaan Rooney. Spoiler alert, it was won by Jake Wall, but not before a lengthy list of injuries.

Durie had also hosted Skating on Thin Ice for Nine in 2005 with celebs including Deni Hines, Imogen Bailey, James Blundell, Belinda Green, Regina Bird, Vince Sorrenti and Peter Everett.

Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean said “We are thrilled that Dancing On Ice is returning to ITV next year and delighted to announce our new roles on the judging panel. The show struck such a huge chord with the viewers ever since it launched in 2006, with many of them taking up skating as a result. We can’t wait to be back on screen in 2018, with a bigger and better series for a brand new audience.”

Resist all thought of reviving here….

    1. 1.61M in 2006? That’s way down in the ranks of also-rans…

I mean, it’s not “Yasmin …” territory by any stretch – but Border Security was getting over 2M, and DwtS peaked at just under 2.2M for the regular episodes (and the grand final got over 2.5M).
