Hugh Grant returning to TV for A Very English Scandal

Hugh Grant's first series role since the 1990s is a new 3 part drama by Russell T. Davies.

Filming is underway in the UK on A Very English Scandal, starring Hugh Grant.

The 3 part series by Russell T. Davies’ (Doctor Who, Queer as Folk, Cucumber) major three-part drama for BBC One the dramatises the shocking true story of the first British politician to stand trial for conspiracy and incitement to murder.

Hugh Grant returns to TV for his first series role since the early 1990s disgraced MP Jeremy Thorpe, who in 1979 was tried but acquitted of conspiring to murder his ex-lover Norman Scott, played by Ben Whishaw (London Spy, Spectre). It will be directed by Stephen Frears.

Also featuring are Eve Myles, Michele Dotrice, Blake Harrison, Alex Jennings, Patricia Hodge , Monica Dolan, Adrian Scarborough, Jason Watkins, Fisayo Akinade, David Bamber, Patrick Barlow, Lucy Briggs-Owen, Paul Hilton, Jonathan Hyde, Alice Orr-Ewing, Steffan Rhodri, Paul Freeman and Susan Wooldridge.

The drama will be produced by Blueprint Television for BBC One in the UK and Amazon Prime Video in the US, to be distributed by Sony Pictures Television. An Australian broadcaster has not yet been announced.

The Thorpe affair revealed such breath-taking deceit and corruption that, at the time, hardly anyone dared believe it could be true.
