Princess Pictures appoints senior producer

Screen Australia's Mike Cowap will work across scripted & unscripted projects for Princess Pictures.

Princess Pictures is appointing Screen Australia Investment Manager Mike Cowap as a senior producer across its scripted and unscripted departments.

Cowap has been with Screen Australia since 2008 and with predecessor agency the Australian Film Commission since 2005. He previously held positions with the UK Film Council and the South Australian Film Corporation, and worked with production companies Picture Palace North (UK) and Monkeystack.

At Screen Australia he managed projects including online content, TV series, feature films, apps, interactive drama & documentary, and video games. Amongst several special programs he initiated were Skip Ahead with Google / YouTube and Fresh Blood with ABC.

“For the past 12 years I’ve had one of the most rewarding jobs in the Australian industry. I’ve been privileged to support talented filmmakers to take risks, embrace new platforms, push their careers forward, build audiences, win awards, and realise their visions. Now it’s time to get back out there and tread that path for myself,” he said.

“Princess are an agile, dynamic production company with a stunning back catalogue, an exciting slate of projects and talent, and in particular have been at the forefront of working with online creators on newer platforms. I’m really looking forward to being a part of their great and growing team.”

Princess Pictures productions have included Summer Heights High, Ja’mie: Private School Girl, My Year 12 Life, Open Slather, The Divorce, It’s a Date and Outland.

“Mike is joining the company at an exciting time and we look forward to welcoming him as an influential part of our senior producing team. We cannot wait to experience the positive impact he will have on the creative culture at Princess,” the company said in a statement.
