Weinstein Co: “Utter surprise to the Board”

"Any suggestion that the Board had knowledge of this conduct is false," says The Weinstein Company.

Hollywood production heavyweights The Weinstein Company have issued a statement following revelations surrounding its former co-chairman:

“The Weinstein Company’s Board of Representatives – Bob Weinstein, Lance Maerov, Richard Koenigsberg and Tarak Ben Ammar – are shocked and dismayed by the recently emerged allegations of extreme sexual misconduct and sexual assault by Harvey Weinstein. These alleged actions are antithetical to human decency. These allegations come as an utter surprise to the Board. Any suggestion that the Board had knowledge of this conduct is false,” it said.

“We are committed to assisting with our full energies in all criminal or other investigations of these alleged acts, while pursuing justice for the victims and a full and independent investigation of our own.”

Meanwhile Harvey Weinstein has hired Hollywood powerhouse lawyer Patrica Glaser to challenge his termination from the company, while his wife fashion designer Georgina Chapman confirmed she is leaving her husband.

“My heart breaks for all the women who have suffered tremendous pain because of these unforgivable actions,” Chapman said. “I have chosen to leave my husband. Caring for my young children is my first priority and I ask the media for privacy at this time.”

  1. Many of the allegations date back to Miramax, both before and after it was acquired by Disney, before the TWC was even formed.TWC isn’t a major producer, it serves as a co-producer and distributor and has downsized and has been concentrating on spinning off old Weinstein films for sequels and TV. It will likely jettison more of its unprofitable divisions, downsize and is core business will emerge under another name.
