1 vs 100 in studio

Heading off to the shoot for 1 Vs 100 this Thursday, and expecting Eddie McGuire to emerge as the host. This hasn’t been officially confirmed by Nine yet, but it’s a widely-held view that Nine needs Eddie back on screen. He may not be everybody’s favourite, but he’s a good performer and Nine are going to need all their biggest guns this year.

The format is sort of Deal meets Millionaire. A wall of 100 people stacked on top of one another will share in prizemoney if a single contestant can’t get the question right. Each time one of “the mob” gets a question right they are eliminated, and the contestant’s prize kitty rises. There are versions of Millionaire lifelines too for when the questions get hard. And again, the ultimate prize is $1M. It’s a pretty good format, and the gigantic set, which Nine will shoot at Central Studios, Docklands, certainly has the wow factor. The beloved Studio 9 at Richmond just wasn’t big enough to build the thing.

Nine has a lot riding on this, particularly if Eddie is the host. If it fails (and I don’t think it will) he will wear a lot of flak. Just having him back on screen will immediately move him back into the firing line for Sydney journos. Nine is also promising Show Me The Money another game show with dancing girls who each bear a different cash prize. In the US it was hosted by the shat-tastic William Shatner but it died instantly. So why bring this back and rest Millionaire? I suppose because 1 Vs 100 is already too similar? And who would host Show Me The Money? Bert would be a camp Shatner equivalent, but not if 20 to 1 is back in primetime (and they reckon it will be). Jules Lund is often mentioned. Yeah well Big Questions was hardly must-see TV so I wouldn’t go there, guys…

You can see a preview of the American 1 Vs 100 with the eye-popping, Muppet Show set.
