Oscars: Spoiler free highlights

Ok gang.

I’ve just seen the Oscars a few hours ahead of their screening tonight on Nine.

I wouldn’t dare reveal any winners to you.

But if you want a general overview, and some celebrity highlights read on.

Overall it certainly isn’t one of the more memorable, but it’s not without its moments.

Ellen de Generes is fab as host, adding her wry humour. She’s suitably blase about the whole affair, with her tongue planted firmly in her cheek. Look for her audience participation moments, when she’s in the crowd.

In fact Ellen marks this as the most lesbian Oscars in recent memory!

There are performances by the Dreamgirls cast, Celine (lol), Melissa Etheridge, James Taylor.

Jerry Seinfeld’s intro to Documentaries is also a good laugh.

One of the more awkward presentation moments is by Clint Eastwood. You’ll have to watch to see why.

Meryl Streep also manages a telling look from the audience.

And Jack Nicholson is there like a parody of himself. Bald, smiling, but still great Jack.

Best frock I’d give to Cameron Diaz.

Hope Nine’s telecast doesn’t include the backstage host who kept reminding us about what had happened and what was to come. He was lousy.

All the big awards are at the end as usual, but Supporting Actors which usually opens the night is now midway.

Good luck picking your winners, I had a great run this year!

The Oscars screen from tonight on Nine 7:30pm Red Carpet / 8pm Ceremony.
