Stan’s Beastly spirit

Stan Zemanek is to continue as Australia’s longest-serving host of Beauty and the Beast despite undergoing treatment for a malignant brain tumour diagnosed last year.

Foxtel has commissioned 20 new episodes of the trusty old panel show, which first aired in 1964.

He will be joined by two more female panellists per episode.

Press Release follows:

FOXTEL is underway with production of 20 new episodes of the iconic television show BEAUTY & THE BEAST, to air exclusively on the W. Channel.

The new shows extend the W. Channel’s current season of BEAUTY & THE BEAST in the 1.00pm Sunday timeslot.

BEAUTY & THE BEAST is hosted by Stan Zemanek. Zemanek is currently undergoing treatment for a malignant brain tumour diagnosed last year. He retired from radio in December but continues his reign as Australia’s longest serving “beast”.

In this latest series Stan will have not four but six “beauties” to brawl with per episode. Prue MacSween, Jeanne Little, Carlotta and Jan Murray continue as the resident beauties, while the guest panellists will include Kathy Lette, Ita Buttrose, Lauren Newton, Tania Zaetta and Charlotte Dawson.

From sex, to politics, to religion and relationships, BEAUTY & THE BEAST delivers more of the classic verbal stoushes and differing points of view for which the hugely popular show is famous. The show first aired on Australian television in 1964 and has become an institution.
