Eurovision Finalists

The results of the Eurovision Semi Final are in!

10 of 28 countries have now qualified for the Final to take place Saturday night (Sunday morning AEST).

To view the list of winners and losers

….they are as follows:

03. Belarus
06. FYR Macedonia
07. Slovenia
08. Hungary
11. Georgia
14. Latvia
17. Serbia
21. Bulgaria
22. Turkey
24. Moldova

These ten now join the other countries which had automatically qualified for the Final.

The list of winners was heavily weighted towards Eastern European blocs, ousting other countries like Norway, Malta, Israel, Switzerland and the Netherlands.

According to Alistair Birch’s Eurovision blog, “Last year’s Heavy Metal Eurovision winner Lordi had encouraged a number of countries to submit rock bands to this year’s contest. All were eliminated at this Evening’s Semi Final. Other high-profile eliminations included Switzerland’s DJ Bobo and Andorra’s Anonymous as well as most other Western European countries in the Semi Final.”

According to his site, Aussie voters have voted Roger Cicero from Germany as its preferred choice, but it has no bearing on the outcome.

This site will not post any news or comments on the Final until after the SBS telecast ends.

  1. That was the worst Eurovision Semi-Final ever!
Out of 28 songs only 6 were good songs and only 1 … yes ONE of those were voted through to the final. The rest of the show was crap!
And the best song of the night .. DQ from Denmark with Drama Queen did not get through.
I say stuff the public voting and bring back the juries to decide and we may get a decent show for once.
This used to be a POP Song contest, now it is just a circus, it was a very boring show this time. Kept wanting to switch channels … I NEVER do that with Eurovision!
    Jack!

  2. Ugh. Hardly any of the good countries made it in. And I’m a little shocked and disappointed that Turkey made it in. Sure, I’m a Turk myself, but the Turkish entry was just AWFUL. Tryhard pop trash to put it nicely. I didn’t even think it would have made the top 24 let alone the top 10.

    As I said before… I’m EXTREMELY disappointed.

  3. a bit disappointing this year – no stand out performances among the semi-final unlike other years – though Turkey, Andorra and Norway were not completely horrendous. Denmark was OK but my other half has been playing that song for ages so I am a bit over it now!! And i suppose while Denmark sent in their drag queens, Serbia responded by sending in their lesbians.
But I’ve not heard any of the songs for the final (except UK) so that might produce some better songs. And *BOO* to SBS for cutting out the interval so they could slot in more commercials… will wait to see those bits on the DVD.
