Sigourney Weaver takes the viewer on an emotional and personal journey as she revisits Rwanda in search of the magnificent gorillas she spent time with during the filming of Gorillas in the Mist – a movie that immortalised the life of courageous and passionate gorilla conservationist, Dian Fossey. Now, 20 years on, as Ambassador and Honorary Chair of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund International, Sigourney makes the journey back to the place where she discovered the world of this great primate, and where she formed bonds with these magical creatures. As star and narrator of this one-hour special, Weaver recounts the extraordinary tale of Fossey and her mountain gorillas, and the endeavours of those who continue to save these charismatic animals from extinction. She goes in search of the gorillas to see how they’re doing now, hoping to catch a glimpse of her ‘former friends’, all the while learning of the dangers that still threaten their very existence. Marvel in amazement as you witness Sigourney ‘talking their language’ in order to get up close to her old gorilla friends, which have all grown up and are now fostering families of their own.
