Emmy Nominees 2007

The nominations are in for the 59th Emmy Awards and The Sopranos leads the mob.

The HBO drama has 15 nominations, including Best Drama alongside Grey’s Anatomy, House, Boston Legal and Heroes.

Ugly Betty leads the comedy field with 11 nods, nominated for Best Comedy with The Office, 30 Rock, Two and a Half Men and Entourage.

In an almost Aussie / NZ battle the nominations for Supporting Actress in a Telemovie or Miniseries are Greta Scacchi, Anna Paquin, Judy Davis, Toni Collette and Britain’s Samantha Morton. Davis has frequently dominated nods in the telemovie acting categories since 1982. This time it’s for The Starter Wife shot in Australia with Will and Grace’s Debra Messing.

Rachel Griffiths is nominated in Supporting Actress Drama for Brothers and Sisters.

Competing for Best Actor Drama are James Spader, Hugh Laurie, Denis Leary, James Gandolfini, and Kiefer Sutherland. Actress: Sally Field, Kyra Sedgwick, Mariska Hargitay, Patricia Arquette, Minnie Driver, Edie Falco.

In comedy: Lead Actor: Tony Shalhoub, Steve Carell, Alec Baldwin, Charlie Sheen. Actress: Felicity Huffman, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Tiny Fey, America Ferrera, Mary-Louise Parker.

Scrubs picked up several nominations, particularly for its musical episode. Desperate Housewives and Lost both missed out in the big categories, as did the CSI franchise.

Disappointingly, I thought Mark Indelicato as Ugly Betty’s “Justin” should have been recognised. Elsewhere, TR Knight and Sir Ian McKellan were nominated.

Australian-show series Stephen King’s Nightmares and Dreamscapes also picked up technical nods and an acting nomination for William H. Macy.

In Reality its perennial winner The Amazing Race vs American Idol, Dancing with the Stars, Project Runway and Top Chef.

And it will be a tight race between David Letterman, Jay Leno, Jon Stewart, Bill Maher and The Colbert Report.
