More Who News

There is more news on casting for next year’s season of Doctor Who.

As these may be considered spoilers, if you want to know more read the full post.

Freema Agyeman will not return to Who until halfway through the series.

Meanwhile Catherine Tate has confirmed as the new sidekick for the entire 13 episodes, reprising her role as Donna, the ‘runaway bride.’

“I am delighted to be returning to Doctor Who,” she said. “I had a blast last Christmas and look forward to travelling again through time and space with that nice man from Gallifrey.”

Writer Russell t. Davies added, “Viewers can expect more ambitious storylines and a whole host of guest stars in 2008.”

This show certainly likes to keep us from locking into favourite actors, but I guess it’s the beauty of its format.

  1. Spot on Neon Kitten … sounds like you read the Dr Who Monthly or at least are a fan who is up with all the latest internet news!
I hope we get to see a lot more of that other young doctor that she met in the final episode of season 3!!!
    Jack!

  2. Completely with you on that point, Jack. When I heard about this earlier today I was gobsmacked… “The whole 13 episodes? Aaaah! Please no!!” was the approximate reaction.

I’m actually very surprised they’re not just bringing Freema back for the whole season, but then, I also hear she’ll be spending some time on Torchwood – true? If so, ironic, really, as that’s the show she was told she was auditioning for when in fact it was not the “B” show but the “A” show she was in the running for.

  3. I knew about Freema but as for Catherine Tate … you have GOT to be kidding!!!!! Is it 1st April or something???
I definitely liked some of her comedy show (some parts were just dumb) and she was great in the Runaway Bride episode … but for a whole year???
Doctor Who is NOT a comedy, it is a family drama and unless she cuts way back on the “over-the-top” performance it will ruin the show.
Potentially we have gone from the BEST year of Doctor Who ever to the worst in 2008!
Of course, I am more than happy to be proved wrong about this but i have not been so far.
    Jack!
