Perth and Adelaide eye local ACA

Audiences in Perth and Adelaide may soon get a localised version of A Current Affair if WIN boss Bruce Gordon has his way. It is part of his push to address disappointing News figures in Perth.

“Western Australian people like localism, they like the local taste,” Gordon told The Australian.

If the Foreign Investment Review Board approves WIN’s acquisition of Nine in Adelaide, he’d be looking to repeat the idea there.

Seven has regular, convincing wins in both Adelaide and Perth for its News and Current Affairs. Today Tonight in Perth is hosted by Monika Kos, and in Adelaide Rosanna Mangiarelli has been announced as the replacement to departing host Leigh McClusky.

WIN is also increasing its production arm, including the launch of Susie as an afternoon show recently. It dropped The Catch-Up in favour of Susie prior to Nine’s show being axed.

While we’re on the subject are Nine’s recent wins in Brisbane helped by the local Extra programme leading into its News?

Perhaps localising programming is Nine’s key to competing against Deal or No Deal?

  1. I don’t suppose I could convince 7 & 9 network chiefs to dump both TT and ACA, either local or national versions, in favour of serious, ethically moral coverage of current affairs?

    No?

    Didn’t think so.

  2. I think this is a fantastic idea, but I seem to remember Adelaide doing a local ‘A Current Affair’ a few years ago, and dumping it soon after
